Eutelsat discusses ISRO launches as fleet targets 1,000 satellites
- Eutelsat is in talks with the Indian Space Research Organisation for future satellite launches, CEO Jean-Francois Fallacher said in a Reuters interview reported in May 2025.
- Eutelsat said it will soon have 1,000 satellites in orbit, up from about 634 satellites today across low Earth orbit and geostationary orbit.
- Eutelsat's OneWeb unit previously used ISRO rockets before joining the group, and Eutelsat has also recently used SpaceX and ArianeGroup for launches.
Eutelsat is negotiating with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for future satellite launches, CEO Jean-Francois Fallacher said in a Reuters interview reported in May 2025. He said Eutelsat expects to soon have 1,000 satellites in orbit, compared with its current fleet of about 634 satellites across low Earth orbit (LEO) and geostationary orbit.
Fallacher said Eutelsat is discussing launches for some of its new satellites with ISRO. Eutelsat recently used rockets from SpaceX and ArianeGroup for deployments, while its LEO communications unit OneWeb had already used ISRO rockets before joining Eutelsat. In its half-year 2025-2026 results for the period ending in December 2025, Eutelsat also said it had acquired 440 LEO satellites for OneWeb.
The update shows Eutelsat expanding launch options as it builds out OneWeb, its European LEO satellite communications business. OneWeb competes with Starlink, the satellite internet service from SpaceX, and serves mobile operators, public sector organisations, and industrial customers, including connectivity use cases in remote areas.
