Telefonica deploys IoT platform at 3 Negratin sites in Colombia
TL;DR: Telefonica developed a digital operations platform for Negratin Group and deployed it at three rural sites in Colombia. The system uses IoT, or Internet of Things, connectivity, real-time location tracking, and intelligent access control. Negratin said the pilot sites represent 10% of its peak energy production capacity and 38.4MWp of photovoltaic generation capacity.
Telefonica developed a digital platform for Negratin Group for use at three rural energy sites in Colombia, according to a Mobile World Live report published in August 2026. Telefonica said the platform is intended to support Negratin's future operations and improve efficiency as the company manages more complex energy projects.
Telefonica provided IoT, or Internet of Things, connectivity, along with real-time location tracking and intelligent access control systems. Negratin said the platform delivers continuous data updates and analysis using information collected from 215 devices and assets across the sites. Telefonica said the system also improves traceability of operations and can support safety through more accurate monitoring of site presence and material flows.
The three Colombian sites account for 10% of Negratin's peak energy production capability and have a combined photovoltaic generation capacity of 38.4MWp. Telefonica said the Colombian deployments are pilot projects that Negratin plans to use as a blueprint for other energy plants. Javier Vizcaino, director of SMEs at Telefonica, said the contract followed demonstrations at the operator's innovation centre in Madrid.
