OpenAI smart speaker details point to screen-less home device

Source: gsmarena.comJuly 15, 2026

OpenAI's first device will be a screen-less smart speaker for home use, according to a Bloomberg report cited by GSMArena.

TL;DR

  • OpenAI's first device is reported to be a screen-less smart speaker.
  • The device is designed for use inside the home and will include a rechargeable battery.
  • Reported functions include smart home control, media playback, answering questions, and responding to messages.
  • The speaker is expected to include ChatGPT with a more advanced version of the new ChatGPT voice mode.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported, via GSMArena on July 16, 2026, that OpenAI's first hardware product will be a screen-less smart speaker. The report says the device is intended for use inside the home rather than as a phone or wearable.

The reported OpenAI smart speaker will be easy to move around the house and will use a rechargeable battery. GSMArena said the device is expected to work like other smart speakers by controlling smart home appliances, playing media, answering questions, and responding to messages.

The report says the device will have ChatGPT built in. According to GSMArena's summary of the Bloomberg report, the chatbot will use a more advanced version of the new ChatGPT voice mode to support back-and-forth spoken conversations, including interruptions.
