Nintendo Switch 2 gets user-replaceable battery in EU sales
Nintendo will sell new Switch 2 units with user-replaceable batteries from autumn 2026 across the 27 European Union member states, Norway, Switzerland, the UK, Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and South Africa.

Nintendo disclosed the hardware change in a post on its website. The company said the updated Switch 2 will use a 5,172mAh battery, compared with the current version's slightly larger battery capacity.
The reported battery capacity reduction is 1% versus the current Switch 2 model. Despite that change, the main hardware update described by Nintendo is that users will be able to replace the battery themselves on eligible new units.
The rollout covers all 27 European Union member states and eight additional markets: Norway, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and South Africa. The source report did not state whether Nintendo will extend the user-replaceable battery design to other regions.
