Vodafone Egypt and Tunisie Telecom announce mobile payment deals
Mobile payment services continue to spread across Africa as many people remain outside the formal banking system but own mobile phones. That backdrop sits behind two new announcements from North Africa: Vodafone Egypt and Tunisie Telecom have both moved to expand mobile payment-based offerings in their respective markets.
While full commercial details are still emerging, both operators are targeting users who rely on phones rather than bank branches for everyday transactions. The deals point to further growth in mobile wallets and digital payments in Egypt and Tunisia, as operators try to turn widespread handset use into a basic financial access tool.
