Virgin Media O2 says TXO pact cut 5,262 tonnes of CO2e

Virgin Media O2 said its partnership with TXO avoided 5,262 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions over the last decade. The UK operator said the savings came from work on network equipment assets across refurbishment, resale, reuse, procurement of refurbished hardware, and recycling.

TXO said recovering and refurbishing assets for resale accounted for 4,575 tonnes of the reported CO2e savings. Virgin Media O2 said switches, routers and line cards from its fixed operation were among the common assets returned to the market through the programme.

Virgin Media O2 also said sourcing refurbished equipment avoided about 687 tonnes of CO2e because it did not need to buy new hardware. The partnership also covered end-of-life recycling, with more than 690 tonnes of the operator’s equipment sent for breakdown, and more than 60% of the recycled weight extracted from that waste consisting of steel, copper and aluminium.
