TRAI: Jio and Airtel added 5.4 million users in Sept 2026

India added 6.57 million wireless mobile subscribers in September 2026, taking the wireless mobile subscriber base from 1,293.43 million at the end of August to 1,300 million at the end of September, according to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The monthly growth rate was 0.51%.

Reliance Jio added 2.71 million wireless mobile subscribers in September 2026, and Bharti Airtel added 2.69 million. BSNL added 626,000 subscribers, Vodafone Idea added 550,000, and MTNL lost 6,628 subscribers.

Wireless mobile subscriptions in urban India increased from 748.84 million to 753.85 million in September 2026, while rural wireless mobile subscriptions increased from 544.58 million to 546.14 million. Urban mobile subscriptions grew 0.67% in the month, compared with 0.29% in rural areas.

India’s broader wireless subscriber base, including mobile and fixed wireless access, rose from 1,312.25 million in August to 1,319.19 million in September, a net addition of 6.94 million. Total telephone subscribers increased from 1,360.70 million to 1,367.93 million, broadband subscribers rose from 1,101.21 million to 1,107.68 million, and wireline subscribers increased from 48.45 million to 48.74 million. TRAI also reported 16.77 million mobile number portability requests and 1,212.80 million active wireless mobile subscribers in September.
