Qualcomm Technologies said BMW Group awarded it a long-term contract to serve as the lead compute silicon supplier for BMW's digital cockpit and next-generation automated and assisted driving systems through the next decade. Qualcomm said BMW will use products from its Snapdragon Digital Chassis portfolio for those vehicle systems.
Qualcomm said the agreement follows several years of technical collaboration between the companies. Qualcomm also pointed to a planned commercial launch in November 2025 of an automated driving system in the BMW iX3 vehicle.
Qualcomm linked the BMW agreement to its broader push to grow automotive revenue beyond its handset business. At its June investor day, Qualcomm set a FY29 automotive revenue target of $10 billion, within a wider non-handset revenue target of $40 billion for the fiscal year ending in late September 2029; its previous FY29 targets, set in 2024, were $8 billion for automotive and $22 billion for non-handset revenue.
Qualcomm said its automotive business generated almost $4 billion in revenue in FY25, out of total company revenue of $38.4 billion. Qualcomm said handset revenue was $27.8 billion in FY25, and it expects handsets to account for one-third of total revenue in FY29.
