Bloomberg reported on May 14, 2026 that OpenAI is considering legal action against Apple over the integration of ChatGPT into Apple software. The report said OpenAI lawyers are working with an outside legal firm on possible options, including sending Apple a notice alleging breach of contract.
The report said OpenAI has not made a final decision on legal action and still hopes to resolve the dispute without going to court. According to the report, OpenAI expected more subscriptions and deeper placement for ChatGPT in Siri, but believes Apple has not done enough to support that outcome.
The report also said Apple is turning to Gemini to help power Siri. Android Authority attributed the new details to Bloomberg and framed the dispute around Apple’s existing ChatGPT partnership with OpenAI and Apple’s parallel work with Gemini.
