Naukri reported that AI hiring in India’s IT sector rose 16% year-on-year in June, while overall IT hiring fell 3%.
TL;DR
- Naukri’s June JobSpeak report said AI hiring in India’s IT sector increased 16% year-on-year.
- The same report said overall IT hiring in India declined 3% in June.
- AI and machine learning-related hiring rose 25% across 14 industries, with insurance and consumer goods showing the strongest growth.
Naukri, an Indian online job portal owned by Info Edge, said in its latest JobSpeak report that AI hiring in the IT sector increased 16% year-on-year in June. The report also said overall IT hiring declined 3% during the same month.
Naukri said demand for AI and machine learning skills also expanded beyond the IT sector. According to the report, AI and machine learning-related recruitment rose 25% across 14 industries, with insurance and consumer goods recording the strongest growth.
Info Edge CEO Hitesh Oberoi said the gap between AI hiring growth and overall IT hiring shows where technology companies are still investing. The report comes as India’s $315 billion IT services sector adjusts to wider AI adoption. Mobile World Live also cited Tata Consultancy Services chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran, who said last month that the company would have an equal number of AI workers and employees and that the AI era would lead to lower hiring.
