Mistral AI acquires Emmi AI; 35 staff join this month

Mistral AI agreed to acquire Austrian start-up Emmi AI, and Emmi AI’s 35-person team will join Mistral this month. Mistral said the deal supports its effort to expand its offering to industrial customers in Europe. The companies did not disclose the value of the transaction.

Emmi AI was founded in 2024 in Austria. The company develops AI models to improve operations in sectors including aviation, energy, semiconductors and automotive, and adapts and trains those models using customer data. Reuters previously reported that Emmi AI raised €15 million in an Austrian funding round in 2025.

Mistral AI said the acquisition adds capabilities to model physics and to enable AI agents to use existing engineering tools. Mobile World Live reported the deal aligns with a broader European Commission focus on industrial AI and manufacturing, which the Commission identified in October 2025 as a critical AI sector.
