Microsoft backs Mistral GPU expansion in Europe with multibillion deal

Source: mobileworldlive.comJuly 22, 2026

TL;DR: Microsoft and Mistral expanded their partnership through a multibillion-dollar agreement to fund Mistral's GPU infrastructure growth in Europe. Mistral said it is adding thousands of Nvidia Vera Rubin GPUs. Microsoft also said Mistral Medium 3.5 and OCR 4 are now available in Microsoft Foundry, and Mistral Medium 3.5 has been added to Microsoft Copilot Studio.

Microsoft and Mistral expanded their partnership through a multibillion-dollar agreement to finance Mistral's GPU infrastructure growth in Europe, according to Mobile World Live's report published in September 2025. Microsoft said it will use Mistral's expanded GPU capacity to increase its own AI computing availability for cloud and AI services in Europe.

Mistral, a French AI company, said it is expanding capacity with thousands of Nvidia Vera Rubin GPUs to support a shared platform for training, inference, and large-scale deployment. Microsoft said the agreement supports its broader global infrastructure model, which combines company-owned data centers, leased facilities, and partnerships with external providers. Microsoft also linked the deal to its European Digital Commitments announced in 2025.

Microsoft said Mistral Medium 3.5 and OCR 4 are already available in Microsoft Foundry, and Mistral Medium 3.5 has also been added to Microsoft Copilot Studio. Microsoft said the agreement is intended to support regulated sectors including financial services, manufacturing, and healthcare by helping them meet sovereignty, latency, and resilience requirements. The companies are also coordinating a joint go-to-market plan that includes pilot project funding, Azure credits, and workshops.
