LG Uplus and Broadcom test Edge AI in Wi-Fi 8 router management

LG Uplus tested Edge AI-based self-healing functions in a Wi-Fi 8-compatible home broadband system with Broadcom, according to a Mobile World Live report published in August 2026.

LG Uplus said the self-healing capability uses Edge AI, meaning analysis and adaptation happen in the router rather than in the cloud. The operator said this approach was tested on a Wi-Fi 8-compatible home broadband system as part of its network automation work.

Broadcom provided the Wi-Fi 8 platform used in the trial, including a neural processing unit that enabled on-board AI computation. LG Uplus said it modified its existing cloud-based AI network prediction model so it could operate directly in the router.

LG Uplus said the trial showed routers can become part of an AI-based quality management platform for customer service and infrastructure management. The operator also said the companies proved the router could detect and adapt to anomalies before customers notice them, with the aim of improving stability for bandwidth-intensive services. LG Uplus said it plans further trials on using AI to manage Wi-Fi 8 networks.
