Ericsson and Mobily sign AI RAN testing MoU in Saudi Arabia

TL;DR: Ericsson and Mobily signed a memorandum of understanding to test AI applications across Mobily’s radio access network in Saudi Arabia. The work covers distributed AI in RAN compute, radio and active antenna systems, plus centralized AI use cases on Ericsson Intelligent Automation Platform. Mobily also gets access to Ericsson’s EIAP ecosystem, which includes more than 100 rApps from members.

Ericsson and Saudi Arabian operator Mobily signed a memorandum of understanding to test AI applications across Mobily’s radio access network in Saudi Arabia. The stated aim is to move toward autonomous network operations.

The agreement covers distributed AI applications across RAN compute, radio and active antenna systems, alongside centralized AI use cases delivered through RAN applications on EIAP, Ericsson’s open network management and automation platform.

Mobily will gain access to Ericsson’s EIAP ecosystem, which includes more than 100 rApps from members. Mobily will also get software development tools, an AI-powered rApp Developer Assistant, and access to software vendors, developers and other partners for applications addressing network requirements in Saudi Arabia.

Ericsson and Mobily previously partnered in 2025 to deploy explainable AI and trial an AI application designed to detect and proactively manage interference affecting 5G uplink connections.
