AT&T expands 400G wavelength service to 16 US metro areas
AT&T Business expanded its 400G wavelength connectivity into 16 additional US metropolitan areas, according to a Mobile World Live report.
TL;DR
AT&T said its 400G wavelength edgeless handoff capability is now available across 440,000 properties and serves more than 2.3 million business tenants in the US. The company said it is targeting deployment within 15 days for eligible locations.
AT&T said the rollout is intended to connect AI workloads from any location to cloud infrastructure, with security built into the network. The company said its edgeless design places 400G connectivity at interconnection hubs where cloud, network and enterprise traffic meet, and that the service is now present in more than 130 carrier hotel locations nationwide.
AT&T said the architecture is designed to provide consistent handoff and predictable performance without building a traditional network edge at every site or data centre. The company said enterprises scaling AI across multiple sites can use the service instead of combining multiple smaller circuits, with branch locations, campuses and edge environments listed as primary use cases.
