Apple made declarative device management the standard in macOS 27 and iOS 27, according to a 9to5Mac report published on June 20, 2026. The report said the shift is no longer a roadmap item and now applies to Apple’s upcoming operating system releases.
The 9to5Mac report said Apple is moving legacy mobile device management, or MDM, configurations into the declarative model. MDM is the framework IT departments use to configure, secure, and manage company devices remotely.
The report also said Apple is introducing new native controls for IT departments alongside the declarative management changes in macOS 27 and iOS 27. It added that organizations should test device workflows and apps early in the beta cycle so bugs can be reported sooner.
