Wise eSIM in France requires a Wise account and no local number

TL;DR: Wise eSIM offers data-only mobile service for France through the Wise app. Buyers need an eligible Wise account, must pay from their Wise balance, and France-registered Wise accounts generally cannot buy a France-only plan.

Wise eSIM can provide mobile data in France soon after arrival, but it does not provide a French phone number, standard voice calls, or SMS. The service is positioned for short-term arrival needs such as maps, messaging apps, email, and app logins.

Wise says customers need an eligible Wise account, enough money in their Wise balance, an unlocked eSIM-compatible phone, and Wi-Fi to install the eSIM. The company says installing the eSIM does not start the plan; usage usually begins when the eSIM connects to a supported network in France.

France-registered Wise accounts generally cannot buy a France single-country plan. Wise says users with accounts registered outside France may be able to buy a France plan, while users with France as their Wise home country may need a Europe or global plan if France is included.

In Expatica's comparison for a five-day France trip, Wise eSIM was listed at €12.57 for 12GB over five days. The same table listed Nomad at €16, Holafly at €18.50, Airalo at €15.50, and Saily at €15.99, all for five-day plans.
