TIM to bring 5G to Brazil’s Antarctic research base with Nokia and satellite links
TIM is building a 5G network for Brazil’s Estação Comandante Ferraz research base in Antarctica, using Nokia radio equipment and a satellite backhaul mix from Starlink and Hispasat.
The setup will rely on Starlink’s low-Earth orbit constellation and Hispasat’s geostationary satellites to carry data to and from the remote station. The project is designed to give scientists and staff more reliable connectivity in one of the harshest and most isolated locations on the planet, where terrestrial links are not an option.
