Teltronic to deploy private 4G rail network for EFE in Chile

TL;DR: Teltronic will supply a private 4G broadband communications network for EFE Trenes de Chile on two new rail lines linking Santiago de Chile with Melipilla and Batuco. Siemens Mobility assigned Teltronic to cover 87 kilometres of track, support Chile's first ETCS Level 2 deployment, and equip 32 trains with onboard radio systems.

Teltronic will supply a private 4G broadband communications network for EFE Trenes de Chile in Chile. The network will serve two new rail lines connecting Santiago de Chile with Melipilla and Batuco under a project that the railway operator awarded to Siemens Mobility.

Siemens Mobility selected Teltronic to deploy the private 4G network across 87 kilometres of new railway lines. The project includes Chile's first ETCS Level 2 system, which uses continuous radio communication for in-cab digital signalling instead of traditional physical lineside signals.

Teltronic said the network is 5G ready and can be upgraded to 5G through a software upgrade. The infrastructure will include two control nodes, one primary and one redundant, to support system resilience.

Teltronic will also equip 32 new trains with its RTP-800 radio for continuous train-to-ground data transmission and the DCD7 touch-screen console for driver radio controls. The system will also support voice communications and integrate with passenger information, public address and CCTV systems, including real-time image transmission.
