Telefónica launched a platform for local police management in Spain through its Defence and Security unit. The software works as an enterprise resource planning system adapted for police command and control, and centralizes the management of officers, patrols, incidents, video surveillance cameras, and speed cameras in one system.
Telefónica said the platform gives a unified real-time view of police activity to support resource allocation and reduce response times. Telefónica also said the system includes a mobile application that lets officers access documents and file reports from the street, while synchronizing information immediately with central systems. The company said the platform has a modular architecture and can interoperate with existing municipal systems.
Vodafone started a project in Barcelona using 5G Standalone, the core 5G architecture that operates without 4G dependence, and network slicing, which creates a dedicated virtual segment of network capacity, to provide priority communications for the Guardia Urbana during the Grand Départ of the Tour de France 2026. Vodafone said the system creates an exclusive channel for officers independent of other user traffic and is designed to maintain connectivity in areas expected to receive more than 800,000 people. Vodafone said more than 40 smartphones used by police officers will transmit real-time video from points along the route to the control room. The company also said it will reinforce 5G coverage at 3,200 coastal locations and more than 1,500 beaches across Spain, including a more than 23 percent increase at coastal sites in Catalonia.
