T-Mobile says Starlink D2D use has trailed expectations
T-Mobile said its Starlink-based direct-to-device service has been used less than expected since it launched in July. The operator also rejected the idea of a Starlink MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) deal, according to Light Reading.
The report said T-Mobile described usage of the Starlink-based service as below expectations after the July launch. The source excerpt did not provide subscriber numbers, traffic figures, pricing, or additional country details.
Direct-to-device satellite services are part of a wider push to extend basic mobile connectivity beyond terrestrial coverage. T-Mobile and Starlink are among the companies testing and launching satellite-to-phone services, while operators and vendors across the sector continue to assess demand, device support, and business models.
