India's total wireless subscriber base, including mobile and Fixed Wireless Access, rose to 1,312.25 million at the end of August 2026, up 0.46% month on month. Urban wireless subscriptions increased from 753.86 million in July to 759.11 million in August, while rural subscriptions increased from 552.40 million to 553.14 million.

Private telecom operators accounted for 92.75% of wireless mobile subscribers at the end of August 2026, while BSNL and MTNL together held 7.25%. TRAI said 99.01% of Airtel's wireless mobile subscriber base was active on the date of peak Visitor Location Register in August, the highest proportion among the major operators. Total telephone subscribers, including wireline connections, rose to 1,360.70 million, up 0.47% month on month.
