Qualcomm says 6G ISAC can improve network efficiency

Qualcomm said on April 23, 2026 that 6G integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) can serve both as a network efficiency tool and as a platform for new services. The company said operators could use ISAC to improve spectral efficiency and energy efficiency while expanding the role of cellular networks beyond communications.

ISAC combines wireless communications with sensing functions in the same network system. In Qualcomm's description, this would let operators use 6G infrastructure for both connectivity and sensing-related capabilities, with the stated benefits of better spectrum use, lower energy use, and support for new cellular services.

ISAC is one of several technologies under discussion for 6G development, alongside broader work on how future mobile networks may add functions beyond data transport. Qualcomm's comments, reported by RCR Wireless News, frame ISAC as part of the emerging 6G technology roadmap and as a potential operator service layer as the industry evaluates future standards and deployment models.
