Micron Technology said it plans to invest more than $250 billion in the United States through 2035. The company said the updated total adds $50 billion to its previous commitment of $200 billion for US semiconductor manufacturing, citing demand for memory chips tied to AI.
Micron said the increased investment supports its long-term goal of producing 40% of its DRAM in the US. The company also said construction of a new semiconductor plant in New York is running a quarter ahead of schedule, while expansion work continues in Idaho and Virginia. Micron said the projects are expected to create more than 90,000 jobs.
Separately, Micron committed $3 billion to strengthen the US semiconductor supply chain. As part of that plan, Micron said it will provide Taiwan-based GlobalWafers with $500 million in strategic financial support for raw silicon wafer manufacturing in Texas, and the companies signed a 10-year supply agreement covering raw silicon wafer capacity for Micron's long-term manufacturing plans in the US.
