Meta updates Instagram policy to allow AI use of public posts

Meta announced Muse Image, its first image-generation model, in July 2026, and said it also previewed Muse Video.
At the same time, Instagram updated its policy to allow posts from public Instagram profiles to be used for AI-generated content, according to the cited report. The policy change applies to content from public accounts rather than private profiles.
Instagram users can opt out of sharing their content with Meta AI by using dedicated toggles in the app’s settings page. Android Authority cited Wired for the policy change details alongside Meta’s Muse Image announcement.
