Liberty Global wins EC approval for €1 billion VodafoneZiggo deal

The European Commission approved Liberty Global’s proposed purchase of Vodafone Group’s 50% stake in Dutch joint venture VodafoneZiggo after reviewing the transaction under its simplified review procedure. The regulator said the deal would have limited impact on the market structure in the Netherlands and did not identify competition concerns.
Liberty Global announced the agreement with Vodafone in February 2026. Under the deal terms disclosed at that time, Liberty Global will buy Vodafone’s half of VodafoneZiggo for €1 billion.
Vodafone is set to receive a 10% stake in a new company called Ziggo Group as part of the agreement. Ziggo Group is being created to hold VodafoneZiggo alongside Liberty Global’s Belgian subsidiary Telenet, and the companies plan to list the new entity in Amsterdam in the second half of 2027. In Liberty Global’s Q1 financial statement, CEO Mike Fries said the company expected to complete the VodafoneZiggo buyout in July 2026.
