Helium Mobile announced it is being acquired by Noble Mobile in 2024, weeks after Helium Mobile shut down its free plan. Android Authority reported the deal on the basis of Helium Mobile's announcement.
Helium Mobile launched in 2023 with a service model that combined traditional cellular coverage with the Helium Network, which the company described as a decentralized 5G network built from hotspots. Noble Mobile is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), meaning it sells mobile service using another operator's network rather than owning a nationwide radio network.
Noble Mobile said it will take over Helium Mobile's existing subscribers and continue offering access to the Helium Network. Helium Mobile said its team will continue working on a decentralized mobile alternative that other carriers could eventually use.
