GSMA says EU mobile sector added €1.2tn to GDP in 2025

GSMA released the figures in a statement promoting its latest regional Mobile Economy report ahead of the Republic of Ireland's upcoming presidency of the European Union. GSMA director general Vivek Badrinath said decisions taken during the six-month presidency and after it would affect how Europe supports mobile infrastructure and the wider digital ecosystem.
GSMA Intelligence forecast the mobile sector's contribution to EU GDP will reach €1.6 trillion in 2030. The report said this would equal 8.2% of overall GDP, compared with 6.1% in 2025. The industry also accounted for 1.3 million direct jobs and 1.1 million indirect jobs at the end of 2025.
GSMA said 5G represented 43% of mobile connections in the European Union at the end of 2025 and repeated its concern about a potential €270 billion shortfall in future funding needs. The association said European regulation must align with infrastructure investment needs to maintain growth.
