Finland extends 5G network security controls to base stations

Finland has tightened security rules for its mobile networks by extending existing 5G security controls to cover base stations as well. The new regulations focus on protecting critical parts of the network against unauthorised access, interference and other security risks.
The measures build on earlier rules that applied mainly to core network functions. By bringing base stations under the same framework, authorities aim to reduce weak points in nationwide 5G infrastructure and improve resilience of communications services. The updated rules follow Finland’s broader approach to treating electronic communications as critical national infrastructure subject to closer oversight.
