Digicel agrees sale of El Salvador unit to GITES

Digicel said on Monday it signed a definitive agreement to sell its El Salvador operations to General International Telecom El Salvador (GITES).

Digicel said the sale is part of its strategy to focus on its core Caribbean markets and strengthen its financial and competitive position. The company said that strategy also includes refinancing the business, an improved economic outlook, a ratings upgrade, and a renewed emphasis on innovation and investment.

Digicel Group CEO Marcelo Cataldo said the company plans to invest across the Caribbean in networks, products, technology, and customer experience. He said this includes continued investment in subsea connectivity, fibre expansion, and network capacity.

Digicel said no financial details were disclosed for the agreement with GITES. The company said it expects to complete the transaction during the first half of 2027, subject to closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
