Cisco urges enterprises to move from WPA2 to WPA3
Cisco said on June 12, 2026 that enterprises should move from WPA2 to WPA3 to strengthen wireless network security.
- Cisco said WPA3 improves enterprise Wi-Fi security compared with WPA2.
- The company highlighted SAE, or Simultaneous Authentication of Equals, and forward secrecy as key WPA3 security features.
- Cisco also linked WPA3 adoption with newer Wi-Fi 7 network deployments in enterprise environments.
Cisco published the recommendation in a Reader Forum article on RCR Wireless News on June 12, 2026. The article said wireless networks now support broader enterprise operations and therefore need stronger protection than older Wi-Fi security approaches provide.
Cisco said WPA3 adds protections including SAE, or Simultaneous Authentication of Equals, which replaces the pre-shared key handshake used in WPA2 in relevant deployments. Cisco also pointed to forward secrecy, which is designed to prevent a compromised credential from exposing previously captured traffic.
Cisco said enterprises should treat wireless security upgrades as part of wider network architecture changes. The article connected WPA3 adoption with Wi-Fi 7 deployments and with enterprise security models built around zero-trust principles, but it did not provide product details, deployment figures, or customer examples.
