Sensor Tower said in its State of Mobile Report 2026 that ChatGPT reached 1 billion monthly active users in three years from launch. The firm said this was a faster pace than Google Maps, TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
OpenAI said in April that ChatGPT had reached 900 million weekly active users in December 2025. OpenAI also said API usage exceeded 15 billion tokens per minute, but the company had not published official 2026 user statistics.
Sensor Tower said Anthropic's Claude reached 56 million monthly active users by the end of the second quarter of 2026, up 640% year on year. Sensor Tower said ChatGPT grew 62% year on year over the same period. The report also said US ChatGPT users who installed Claude in the first three months of 2026 reduced their ChatGPT usage by 5% in the month after installation compared with the average of the previous eight months. Sensor Tower also said Grok had 50 million monthly active users.
