BSNL’s indigenous 4G network in India is currently carrying 6 petabytes of data per day, C-DoT CEO Rajkumar Upadhyay said on September 4, 2026. He said BSNL has deployed 1.75 lakh 4G base stations across 1 lakh sites for its 4G subscribers.

C-DoT has also deployed IP Multimedia Subsystem for BSNL’s 4G network to enable high-definition voice calls in seven circles. Upadhyay said the HD voice capability will be expanded nationwide in the coming months and will need minor software updates to support BSNL’s 5G network when launched.

A Tata Consultancy Services-led consortium installed the BSNL 4G network, with Tejas Networks as the radio access network vendor and C-DoT as the core provider. BSNL has nearly 9.3 crore subscribers nationwide.

C-DoT said its 5G radio access network, developed with WiSig and VVDN Technologies, is undergoing live testing on BSNL’s network in Ambala using BSNL spectrum in the 3600-3700MHz range. Upadhyay said the 5G NSA core is already deployed across BSNL circles and 5G SA core development is in progress.
