Boldyn Networks links Pneumonitor device to private 5G in West Sussex

TL;DR: West Sussex County Council, Boldyn Networks and Pneumonitor connected an in-pen livestock monitoring device to Boldyn's private 5G network in West Sussex through the Growing Sussex programme. West Sussex County Council, Boldyn Networks and Pneumonitor connected Pneumonitor's in-pen environmental monitoring device to Boldyn Networks' private 5G network in West Sussex through the Growing Sussex programme. The deployment gives farmers near real-time data on conditions inside livestock buildings so they can identify environmental factors linked to respiratory disease risk and animal stress.

Pneumonitor said its device measures conditions within the pen rather than from wall-mounted positions commonly used by other sensors. The connection uses 5G Reduced Capability, or RedCap, a version of 5G designed for Internet of Things devices that do not need the full capabilities of standard 5G and that can operate with lower power consumption, reduced battery requirements and longer device life.

Growing Sussex is a West Sussex County Council programme focused on practical uses of 5G, IoT and AI in food, drink and agricultural production. Boldyn Networks and West Sussex County Council announced plans for four private 5G networks in 2024, and all four Growing Sussex partner sites were live by December 2025; the Pneumonitor deployment adds livestock-building environmental monitoring to that network set.
