Berg Insight forecasts connected car shipments at 82.6M in 2030

Source: mobileworldlive.comJuly 20, 2026

TL;DR

  • Berg Insight said shipments of cars with embedded connectivity would rise from 72.6 million in 2025 to 82.6 million in 2030.
  • The research firm forecast the share connected to vehicle manufacturers' services would increase from 83% to 91% over the same period.
  • Berg Insight also projected average data consumption per connected car would grow from 6.5GB to 10.1GB.

Berg Insight forecast shipments of cars with embedded connectivity capabilities would increase from 72.6 million units in 2025 to 82.6 million units in 2030. Berg Insight also said the proportion of those vehicles connected to manufacturers' services would rise from 83% to 91% over the same period.

Berg Insight senior analyst Martin Cederqvist said the attach rate is increasing because manufacturers are bundling core connectivity services for free over longer periods. He said this approach helps keep a larger share of cars actively connected and supports data collection for product development and vehicle performance over the cars' lifetimes.

Berg Insight said the higher attach rate would increase data usage, with average consumption per car rising from 6.5GB to 10.1GB over the forecast period. The firm said data-heavy infotainment services, app ecosystems and OTA updates are driving usage, and added that MNOs (mobile network operators), MVNOs (mobile virtual network operators), connectivity management platform providers and connected vehicle software providers all have roles in the market.

Cederqvist said eSIM specifications including SGP.32, a GSMA standard for remote SIM provisioning, along with reduced capability 5G and satellite connectivity, help manufacturers adapt to local operator profiles and extend coverage beyond terrestrial networks. He said these technologies also support the long product lifecycles typical in the automotive sector.
