The European Union has made little progress in its effort to obtain details about vulnerabilities that Anthropic's Claude Mythos AI model could reveal, according to comments by Spanish Minister of Economy, Trade and Business Carlos Cuerpo reported by Bloomberg after a meeting held last week.
Cuerpo said the EU raised the issue in a meeting with the financial community last week. Government concern about the security implications of Mythos has increased since Anthropic made the model available to private companies in April. Anthropic has said Mythos may outperform most humans at identifying and exploiting software vulnerabilities.
European authorities said Anthropic is working with US companies to identify risks, while the EU has not received equivalent access. Bloomberg had previously reported that the European Commission was in talks with Anthropic on the matter. Cuerpo said AI models could cause global disruption because banking systems are interconnected, and he called for discussion at the G20 and the Financial Stability Board.
