Amazon data centres in Bahrain damaged at Zallaq and Askar

Bloomberg reported that two Amazon data centres in Bahrain were damaged at facilities in Zallaq and Askar. The report said it reviewed independent images from the European Space Agency's Sentinel-2 satellite constellation showing damage at both sites.

The Askar facility hosts Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure and is run by Batelco, Bahrain's main operator. Bloomberg said its reporting supported claims by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which released its own imagery through state news agency Tasnim saying it had damaged the two sites.

Armed Conflict Location and Event Data (ACLED), a non-profit conflict monitor, also reported the attacks. ACLED said Iranian forces fired projectiles at the data centre in Zallaq on 24 July, and that the site in Askar was struck twice, on 18 July and 21 July. AWS had also acknowledged in March that drone strikes had disrupted service after damaging two sites in the UAE and one in Bahrain.
