Airtel and Jio led India mobile subscriber adds in March
Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio led mobile subscriber additions in India in March 2025, according to data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). BSNL added 17,095 subscribers in March and kept its mobile user base largely unchanged at about 92.9 million.
The TRAI data cited by ET Telecom said BSNL's March performance marked a reversal from February 2025, when the state-owned operator lost nearly 0.101 million subscribers. Vodafone Idea and BSNL trailed Airtel and Jio on subscriber additions in March, based on the regulator's monthly industry data.
India's monthly subscriber data is closely watched because it shows how Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea, and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) are competing for mobile users in one of the world's largest telecom markets. For the eSIM market, shifts in operator subscriber share matter because the same operators also shape consumer access to eSIM services, device activation support, and digital onboarding across India.
