Aduna launched a number verification authentication service for the US market, supported by AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile US. The company said the service verifies a user’s identity through confirmed operator data and is intended to replace one-time passcodes sent by SMS.
Aduna said the service uses standardised network APIs, which are application programming interfaces that let software access network functions, to provide real-time authentication. The company said this approach avoids delays in receiving SMS codes, checks data across all three major US operators, and reduces risks linked to SMS-based verification, including social engineering scams and man-in-the-middle attacks.
Executives from the three operators publicly backed the launch. Verizon Business VP of strategic connectivity Shamik Basu said network-driven identity verification can help protect consumers as fraud methods become more sophisticated. AT&T Business VP of connected solutions Lani Ingram said standardised network APIs enable real-time authentication beyond SMS codes. T-Mobile US SVP of spectrum, wholesale and roaming Dirk Mosa said the service gives developers and businesses access to carrier-level trust for possession-based authentication.
