Will India’s government throw Vi another lifeline?

Vodafone Idea (Vi) has reportedly secured major breathing room on its long‑running dues to the Indian government. Without formal confirmation yet, the operator is said to have been given a ten‑year grace period before it must pay more than 95% of its adjusted gross revenue (AGR) liabilities.
The move, if confirmed, would extend Vi’s survival window in a market dominated by Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, where high spectrum and AGR costs have pushed weaker players to the brink. The government now faces a familiar dilemma: keep easing terms to preserve a three‑player market, or risk Vi’s collapse and the fallout for jobs, banks, and customers.
