Telefonica Tech turns water into data
Telefonica Tech is rolling out more than 4,000 smart water meters in Cadiz, Spain, as part of a government sustainability programme with municipal provider Aguas de Cadiz. The NB-IoT-enabled devices, made by Contazara, send consumption data to a remote management platform designed to work reliably in hard-to-reach locations such as basements and dedicated plant rooms.
The system gives the utility more accurate readings and helps spot leaks and other failures by analysing usage patterns for anomalies, said Telefonica Tech executive Carlos Carazo. Aguas de Cadiz president Jose Manuel Cossi noted that initial deployments will focus on select neighbourhoods, homeowners associations and public services like parks and gardens, with a broader phased rollout planned once the pilot phase is complete.
