Ericsson has extended its partnership with Kenyan operator Safaricom under a new multi-year microwave deal designed to strengthen Safaricom’s 5G capacity across the country. The agreement focuses on using microwave backhaul to support higher data traffic on Safaricom’s 5G network, as demand for mobile broadband and data services grows.
The move is part of Safaricom’s wider network expansion strategy as it scales 5G coverage in Kenya. Ericsson will supply and support microwave technology that links mobile sites to the core network, a critical layer for delivering faster and more reliable 5G services.
