'Modernized' MVNO pacts with Verizon mean better rates for Comcast and Charter – Entner
Comcast and Charter have quietly improved the terms of their mobile resale agreements with Verizon, according to analysts. The cable companies, which run their mobile services as MVNOs on Verizon's network, describe the new, long-term deals as "modernized" and focused on "continued profitable growth."
Recon Analytics' Roger Entner told Light Reading that language likely signals better wholesale rates for Comcast and Charter. Lower network costs would help the cable operators keep adding wireless customers and protect margins as they bundle mobile with broadband. Verizon, for its part, locks in significant traffic from two of the largest MVNOs in the country, even as all three companies face slowing growth and rising competition in the 5G era.
