Regulators in Malaysia and Indonesia have temporarily blocked access to Grok, the AI tool run on X, because it can generate and share non-consensual deepfake pornographic images of women and children.
Authorities in both countries framed the move as a safety and content regulation step, targeting the tool’s capability to create abusive material rather than a broader ban on artificial intelligence or the platform itself. The restrictions are described as temporary while regulators assess risks and potential safeguards.
