Starlink may have to seek fresh nod for D2D services in India
India does not yet allow satellite direct-to-device (D2D) mobile connectivity because there is no clear regulatory framework in place. As a result, Starlink will need to seek a fresh approval if it wants to offer such services in the country.
The Department of Telecommunications is still debating how to handle D2D technology, so policy and licensing rules remain uncertain. Until the government defines how these services should be regulated and charged, satellite operators like Starlink cannot legally launch D2D offerings in the Indian market.
