EU prepares remedies to curb Google power in Android AI, search markets
The European Union is planning new measures to rein in Google’s dominance in Android, online search and artificial intelligence, as it steps up enforcement of the Digital Markets Act (DMA). According to Telecompaper, regulators are looking at how Google bundles its services on Android devices and how it promotes its own products in search results, with a view to forcing changes that open more space for rivals.
The tools under discussion include stricter rules on how Google can integrate AI features in search and mobile services, obligations to give users clearer choices of competing apps and services, and limits on self‑preferencing. These measures are part of a broader EU effort to translate the DMA from a legal framework into concrete remedies for so‑called “gatekeeper” platforms like Google.
