Vodafone Idea weighing new debt to revive growth
Vodafone Idea is considering raising fresh debt to fund its next phase of growth, according to people familiar with the matter. Part of the money would go into strengthening its mobile network, a weak spot as it continues to lose ground to larger rivals Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio.
The potential borrowing would add to an already heavy debt load, but the company has limited options as it tries to improve service quality and slow customer losses. Better network performance is critical if Vodafone Idea wants to stay in the fight for market share in India’s crowded telecom sector.
