Uganda restores internet access after election blackout

Uganda has started turning the internet back on after a nationwide shutdown imposed around last week’s general election, in which 81-year-old President Yoweri Museveni secured a seventh term.
Authorities had ordered providers to block access ahead of the vote, cutting off social media and most online services across the country. Connectivity is now gradually returning, though rights groups say the blackout limited election transparency and restricted citizens’ ability to communicate and access information during the polls.
