Nokia launches fixed networks R&D facility in Chennai; expands investment to ₹270 crore
Nokia has opened a new fixed networks research and development centre in Chennai and increased its total planned investment in Tamil Nadu to ₹270 crore. The company says this is now its largest R&D facility globally for fixed network technologies, covering areas like fibre broadband access and related software. The move builds on Nokia’s existing presence in Chennai, where it already runs major manufacturing and R&D operations.
The expansion follows a Memorandum of Understanding Nokia signed with the Tamil Nadu government during Chief Minister M K Stalin’s visit to the United States in August 2024, according to state Industries Minister TRB Rajaa. The state government is pitching the project as part of its push to attract more high-technology investment and skilled jobs into the region.
