Italian Supreme Court Confirms TIM’s EUR 1 Billion Licence Fee Refund
Source: Telecompaper HeadlinesDecember 22, 2025
Italy’s Supreme Court has confirmed that the government must refund Telecom Italia (TIM) around EUR 1 billion in licence fees. The decision upholds a lower court ruling that found TIM had overpaid for its operating licences.
The judgment closes a long-running dispute over how much TIM owed the state for using spectrum and other licensed resources. The government will now have to return the money, plus any amounts specified by the earlier court decision, easing some financial pressure on TIM while adding a new cost item to the public budget.
